‘Another Egrant’ – Muscat wants police to investigate hospitals deal

Former prime minister Joseph Muscat said he agrees with the PN’s call for a police investigation into the hospitals deal

Muscat said he does not trust an ongoing magisterial inquiry into the deal led by magistrate Gabriella Vella.

He said he wants Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà to launch an investigation as he had full confidence in him.

Muscat was fielding questions from Manuel Cuschieri during his programme ‘Linja Diretta’ on Smash TV on Friday evening.

“I understand that the Commissioner himself wants to investigate. The question is who is not letting him investigate”, Muscat said.

He claimed it was magistrate Gabriella Vella who was not letting the police launch their own investigation.

Muscat has been trying to get Vella to recuse herself from the inquiry over leaks and alleged lack of impartiality.

Taking him to court was aimed on creating instability within the Labour Party and the government, he claimed.

Muscat said he believed there was no collusion and that he did not expect to be found guilty of any charges.

“I have no doubt this is another ‘Egrant’ from beginning to end”, Muscat said, adding there were “a lot of theories”.

The claim that Panama company ‘Egrant’ belonged to Muscat’s wife Michelle was debunked by an inquiry, but the actual owner remains unknown.
