Yorgen Fenech’s lawyer demands his client’s testimony before the PAC is suspended
Yorgen Fenech’s PAC testimony suspended until court cases finalised
15:15 | Yorgen Fenech is being escorted through a backdoor to the Correctional Services Agency’s armoured SUV which takes him back to Corradino Correctional Facility.
15:06 | PAC chair Darren Carabott informs Fenech and his lawyers he will be summoned back to testify before the committee once all court proceedings he takes part in are finalised.
14:35 | Mercieca recounts how the court noted earlier this year that “the suspected motive was to eliminate Caruana Galizia before she was able to reveal corruption in relation to Electrogas”.
“He is fighting for his life in court”, the lawyer tells the PAC members after Fenech tells Mercieca that the reason for him not to testify is a possible life-sentence.
14:20 | Yorgen Fenech’s lawyer Charles Mercieca demands that his client’s testimony before the committee is suspended.
Mercieca is arguing that the PAC is probing the Electrogas contract, which allegedly is the motive behind the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia that Fenech has been indicted for.

13:50 | Yorgen Fenech is expected to testify on the Electrogas contract in parliament’s Public Accounts Committee this afternoon.
This will be his first appearance out of court since his arrest, requiring a mostly classified high-security operation in and around parliament.
For the first time, Correctional Services Agency officers drafted a security strategy for having a prisoner in parliament building.
Fenech will be taken to Valletta in an armoured SUV which is usually used to transport prisoners from prison to court hearings.
It is not known which particular route the vehicle will take, or which entrance will be used when Fenech arrives at parliament.
