Cutajar’s return to Labour ‘popular yet unethical’ – senior party source

Some of the leading figures within the Labour Party are disagreeing on Rosianne Cutajar’s return to the party

A senior Labour source told NEWZ.mt that a positive decision for the MPs comeback would be “popular yet unethical”.

“One cannot tell people she paid a ‘political price’ when in fact she received ten thousands of Euros through other positions and termination benefits“, they said.

“What about her ITS contract? The NAO had good reasons to call it a fraud. Are we continuing to normalise such arrangements?”, the source asked.

“I must sound like [civil society group] Repubblika, but the idea of bringing Rosianne back feels like an official endorsement of Kulħadd jitħanżer“.

Having to answer to critical voters’ questions on such issues was an “unnecessary burden” arising from the “continued actions of the few powerful” in the party.

This environment was distracting and increasingly discouraging from working on social democratic and progressive ideas, they added.

“Look at the surveys. Our loss of votes doesn’t strengthen the opposition. Those are the critical thinkers who’ve had enough of our leadership”, the source observed.

On Sunday, Times of Malta published similar comments of unnamed Labour MPs. Their comments ranged from calling Robert Abela’s move a “U-turn” to questioning whether the party was “so desperate for votes”.
