‘Gozo Highspeed’, a new joint ticketing platform by Virtu Ferries Gozo and Gozo Fast Ferry, claims passengers will “arrive faster”
Confusion reigns as fast ferry operators launch misleading advertising campaign
In another u-turn, the two Gozo fast ferry operators have reintroduced tickets valid on both catamarans, and launched a joint online booking platform.
However, the new website was not ready at the time of the announcement, with the company telling people this would be happening “soon”.
“Don’t settle for fast”, Gozo Highspeed boasted in social media, claiming “unrivaled speed is coming” through its “highly anticipated” service.
While these wordings suggest dramatic changes and a faster service, not much is going to change between Valletta and Mġarr.
The booking platform’s emphasis on high speed raised questions among commuters, as the trips’ duration will remain unchanged at just under 45 minutes.
An updated schedule coming with minor changes around lunchtime will be in place from 8 July – with a delay of one week after the launch.
Both Virtu Ferries Gozo and Gozo Fast Ferry are receiving government subsidies worth €12 million through a two-year contract.
Their latest collaboration raises new questions about the commercial viability of two operators running identical services.
