Average worker makes €1,850 a month, working 40.6 hours a week

The National Statistics Office (NSO) estimated the average basic salary of full-time employees at €1,848 per month

Statistics for the first quarter of the year also showed that full-timers worked an average of 40.6 hours per week.

The NSO Labour Force Survey is based on figures provided by Jobs Plus and was published on Tuesday.

Average monthly salaries varied from €1,189 among persons employed in elementary occupations to €2,995 among managers.

291,756 people were employed, 5.3% more than in the first quarter of 2023, representing 63% of the population aged 15 and over.

Over 85,000 earn less than €10,893

The National Statistics Office also published the number of people in Malta at risk of poverty, with over 85,000 individuals earning less than €10,893 per year.

This translates into an at-risk-of-poverty (ARP) rate of 16.7% in 2022, a slight decrease of 0.2 percentage points when compared to the previous year.

In 2022, 102,834 individuals were either at risk of poverty, or severely materially and socially deprived, or living in low-work-intensity households.
