Whistleblower: Dead people’s identities used to vote for Labour

The whistleblower who uncovered an alleged driving licence racket claims he also has evidence of electoral fraud

Identities of dead foreign-born Maltese citizens were being transferred to other foreign nationals in order to vote for the Labour Party, Adel Ali Hassan claims.

Hassan said he had first-hand knowledge of a scheme through which foreign-born Maltese nationals would not be issued a death certificate on their passing.

Personal details, including their ID, were instead passed on to foreigners who would thus illicitly become Maltese nationals and eligible to vote in general elections.

In his legal submission, filed by lawyers Jason Azzopardi and Kris Busietta, the whistleblower emphasised that he wishes to testify via video-conferencing.

Hassan left the country after his Maltese residency was revoked in 2021, allegedly because he had refused to canvass for then-parliamentary secretary Alex Muscat.

Identity Malta denied in a reaction to these claims that it had “maliciously” revoked Hassan’s residency permit.

While the Nationalist Party called for an immediate investigation into the alleged voter fraud, the Labour Party dismissed the allegation as a fantasy.

Labour noted that an Electoral Commission made up of representatives of the two major parties oversees electoral processes.
