‘Where has public money gone’, Volt asks Enemalta

Volt Malta has called on Enemalta to publish its missing financial accounts and annual reports for 2021 and 2022

This was needed in order to show the public how the electricity supplier has spent their money in the past years, the party said.

“All companies and organisations are obliged to publish the financial accounts and annual reports in good time, moreso should be the case when it’s a company which is majority owned by the state and has a monopoly on the energy market” implored Matthias Iannis Portelli, Volt Malta’s Vice-President.

All financial accounts should be published on enemalta’s website and there should be no need to obtain such information through parliamentary questions or through the Malta Business Registry, he added.

Volt Malta said that it is in the public’s interest to know how the first year of a €90 million investment plan to strengthen electricity distribution has been carried out.

“Either be transparent and show a clear way forward, or step down and let someone more capable do the job”, Volt Malta called on those responsible for the country’s electrical grid.
