UN Security Council adopts Malta-drafted Gaza resolution

On Wednesday, the UN Security Council adopted a Malta-drafted resolution calling for ‘humanitarian pauses’ in Gaza

The 15-member council adopted it with 12 votes in favour, while the United States, the United Kingdom and Russia abstained.

Israel immediately rejected the resolution’s call for “urgent and extended humanitarian pauses” in Gaza.

The resolution urges all parties to refrain from depriving basic services to the people in Gaza.

It is also calling for the immediate release of all hostages, especially children, held by terrorist group Hamas.

“What we have achieved today is an important first step”, Malta’s UN Ambassador Vanessa Frazier said.
