Ugly TVM news studio ‘huge step back’ on taxpayers’ expense – Insider

The new studio set of TVM news was a ‘huge step back’ on the expense of taxpayers, an industry insider told Bonġu

On Sunday, PBS presented the new design of its television news programme L-Aħbarijiet – only three years after the last complete overhaul.

“They threw public funds on an uninspired, monotonous and ugly studio set coming in fifty shades of grey, in contrast to current design trends”, the TV producer said.

“And did you see the presenter? It looked like he was sitting on Bernard Grech’s lap”, he referred to the impractical placement of the video wall.

The industry insider also questioned the need for a new studio set after the previous one had only been in use for three years.

“The ‘old’ one actually looked more sophisticated and modern, and could have been used for another three years at least”, he said.

Foreign public broadcasters would usually plan and budget such projects for periods of around ten years.

PBS has not replied to questions about the cost of its new TV news studio, and who was contracted for design and construction.
