Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia wants more ‘full service’ yacht marinas as part of a strategy to attract more superyachts

Transport Minister and PN want more marinas to attract superyachts
The government is planning to identify areas and possible investors for the construction of superyacht marinas across Malta and Gozo.
A 58-page strategy paper presented on Tuesday announces a feasibility study which will also identify “any associated natural constraints”.
The increased use of Malta’s shoreline for marinas has become a controversial topic in recent years.
In 2021, residents of Marsaskala successfully opposed plans for the construction of a large yacht marina in their locality.
Aaron Farrugia said that the exponential growth of Malta’s yacht industry stimulated the economy and generated high-quality jobs.
The number of superyachts exceeding 24 meters registered in Malta has surged from just over 100 in 2007 to over 1,100 in August 2023.
During the presentation on Tuesday, Farrugia said that Malta’s yachting strategy has support from the Nationalist Party.
He thanked PN MP and maritime spokesperson Ivan Castillo for attending the event.
