MEPs approve Casa’s €86.7 billion social climate fund

The EU Parliament has overwhelmingly voted in favour of the €86.7 billion Social Climate Fund spearheaded by PN MEP David Casa

Casa will now lead talks alongside EPP MEP Esther de Lange in negotiations with the EU member states’ governments in the EU Council.

“The Social Climate Fund is the EU’s multi-billion euro answer to shielding citizens from the effects of climate change on energy”, Casa said.

The funds will go towards energy efficiency investments for households and small businesses as part of a plan to reduce energy demand and consumption.

Casa pointed out he negotiated for Malta and Gozo to receive €60 million from this initiative, 10 times more than originally allocated.
