PA grants permit for second Malta-Sicily interconnector

The Planning Authority has voted to grant a permit for the second interconnector between the electricity grids of Malta and Sicily

All relevant works on the project between between Magħtab and Ragusa are now approved from Malta’s end (PA/4448/22), however a similar permit will also be required from the Italian authorities.

The project, which was announced some two and half years ago, is being overseen by the 100% government-owned Interconnect Malta.

It said the conclusion of the planning process “an important step forward in the implementation of Malta’s plan for a sustainable energy sector”.
