The number of Malta residents travelling abroad in the third quarter has increased by 28.3% over the corresponding quarter of 2022
Outbound tourism up by 28% between July and September
Between July and September, the total number of outbound tourists was estimated at 248,094, the National Statistics Office said on Tuesday.
This figure even surpasses the pre-Covid record set in 2019, when around 40,000 fewer residents travelled abroad in summer.
The vast majority of outbound tourists in the third quarter left Malta by air, with only 10.3% travelling by sea.
A few more figures: 78.3% travelled to other EU countries, 63.3% were under the age of 44, and 51.7% of travellers were male.
The most popular destinations between July and September were Italy, the United Kingdom, Spain and France.
Total outbound trips in the first nine months of the year numbered 595,717, an increase of 41.3% over the same period in 2022.
