Nurses overwhelmingly reject government pay offer

97.6% of the nurses and midwives have voted against the government’s financial offer at an extraordinary general conference

The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses said 97.6% voted against, while 1% voted in favour and 1.4% were invalid votes.

With 804 nurses and midwives attending, this was the bigget meeting since MUMN was founded in 1996, the union said.

The MUMN council will explain why the government’s offer was rejected, and announce the way forward in a media conference on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s vote was held after months of negotiations between union and health ministry officials on a new sectoral agreement.

MUMN ordered industrial action after the talks had ended in deadlock, but has suspended the action last week.
