Association for Gozitans employed in Malta says workers are being left stranded in Valletta between 5pm and 7pm
Not enough evening fast ferry trips for Gozitan workers
Many Gozitans working in Malta are being left to wait for hours to return home, the Association for the Gozitan Employees working in Malta said.
The current schedules offered by the two fast ferry companies GozoFast and Virtu Gozo are not providing any trips from Valletta to Gozo between 5pm and 7pm.
GozoFast offers no scheduled trip to Gozo between 17:00 and 19:00, whilst Virtu Gozo doesn’t depart from Valletta for a whole three hours between its trips at 16:15 and 19:15.
“This situation is not acceptable where workers are left to wait for an average of two hours to catch the next available fast ferry”, the association said.
The Association added it is important to remember that this service was introduced around eight months ago to cater better for the needs of Gozitans workers who work in Malta.
In a statement to the Times of Malta, a Virtu spokesperson said the fast ferry service between Malta and Gozo was in “its infancy stage” and the operator was trying to “fine tune the schedule to offer the best possible service while ensuring economic viability”.
