Nobody came to rescue 44 people in a boat in distress in the Maltese rescue area, Alarm Phone said
NGO: 44 people on boat in distress in Malta’s rescue area
On Sunday, the NGO said it had been alerted to a grey fiberglass boat with around 44 people on board. They were without water and food, needed medical assistance and were drifting at sea, it said.
Two merchant vessels were reported to be near the boat in distress. “We fear RCC #Malta will order them to ignore the distressed, as they have done so many times before. Rescue now!”, Alarm Phone said.
In an update on Monday afternoon, the situation appeared to be unchanged. The NGO said the people’s situation was critical and that an immediate rescue would be needed.
