New transport minister confirms ban of rental e-scooters

Transport Minister Chris Bonett has confirmed to Parliament that rental e-kick-scooters will be banned after 31 March

E-scooter companies Bolt and Bird have urged Bonett, who replaced former transport minister Aaron Farrugia last week, to scrap the ban.

Bonett said earlier this week that he was willing to meet the operators, but warned that “right now the conditions are not there” to reverse the decision.

However, he promised that there would be “an open line of communication” and that he could “discuss with them anything they wish to discuss”.

The government announced last year it would introduce incentives to encourage people to own their electric kick-scooters.
