Merchant vessel rescues 29 in distress at sea, despite Malta’s orders
The people saved by the merchant ship GRETA had been in distress in Malta’s search and rescue area for almost 24 hours.
GRETA was waiting outside Maltese territorial waters on Tuesday morning, “hopefully to disembark the rescued soon in Malta”, the NGO said.
On Monday, Alarm Phone said the authorities had ignored its calls for help, and that Malta had ordered the merchant vessel SkylineS not to rescue.
The organisation lamented the continuity of non-assistance, referring to the mass shipwreck off the coast of Greece last week.
