MaltaToday poll with rounding issue sees “PN ahead by 5,000 votes”

The Nationalist Party is ahead of Labour by two percentage points, according to MaltaToday’s latest survey

Support for the PN now stands at 45.8% against the PL’s 43.8%. Other parties collectively enjoy the support of 10.5% of the electorate.

The gap of 4,858 votes between the two major parties falls within the survey’s margin of error.

MaltaToday did neither present a figure for ADPD, simply grouping it with ‘others’, nor did it mention the green party except from the editorial:

“ADPD […] should be asking itself why people prefer to stay at home rather than vote for it in sufficient numbers to elect representatives”, read the ‘advice’.

The presented percentages also come with rounding issues, as results of both the Voting Intentions and the Trust Barometer add up to 100.1%.

Prime Minister Robert Abela enjoys a trust rating of 39.2%, while Opposition Leader Bernard Grech trails far behind with 20%.

40.9% said they trusted none of them, and it remains unclear whether the survey allowed participants to choose ADPD leader Sandra Gauci as most trusted.

It was MaltaToday’s first polling exercise conducted with a new methodology whereby undecided voters were attributed a voting intention.

The newspaper explained this would give a result closer to general election results.
