Justyne Caruana could resign as early as Tuesday – Labour sources

Two Labour sources independently claim that Justyne Caruana could be made to resign from her role as Education Minister as early as Tuesday.

Standards Commissioner George Hyzler has found Caruana in breach of ethics when she granted her boyfriend and former footballer Daniel Bogdanović 15,000 euros in a three-month contract.

One senior source told Bonġu that discussions were underway within the Labour party in order to replace Caruana at the Education Ministry, and “possibly even in Parliament”.

Another source said that no action would be taken on Republic Day, but given the “severity of abuse” this could happen as early as Tuesday.

Hyzler’s as yet unpublished report says that Bogdanović did not write the study he was supposed to deliver himself and that there was “concerted effort to hide Bogdanović’s incompetence”.

On Tuesday morning, the parliament’s standards committee will urgently discuss whether to publish the investigation report.

Education Minister Justyne Caruana has so far not issued a public statement and has refused to answer questions from several media houses.

The Labour party has not yet replied to questions sent by Bonġu.
