INDIS seeks to revoke Kordin site concession, police silent

The government agency for industrial parks has initiated court proceedings to terminate the concession for the site where Jean Paul Sofia died

Sofia died last December when a factory under construction collapsed on government land at Corradino Industrial Estate managed by INDIS Malta.

INDIS said that the site is currently under control of the inquiring magistrate, who has the power to authorise works and eventually release the site.

The emphyteutical concession now to be terminated had been awarded to Kurt Buhagiar, a Lands Authority employee, and his business partner Matthew Schembri.

INDIS explained its termination proceedings are based on a breach of contractual terms and conditions, and pointed out it was never involved in the construction.

MaltaToday said it is informed it had been the magistrate who ordered the demolition of the construction site last March after the necessary evidence was taken.

Police silent on ‘no-share’ instruction

The Malta Police Force has remained silent on an officer’s instruction to Bonġu editor Michael Kaden not to publish photos of the Kordin site on social media.

Kaden was approached by a police officer present at the site last Wednesday, being told “Don’t share any photos of this on social media”.

Bonġu has been repeatedly asking the police force whether its officers have been instructed to tell civilians not to take photos or not to share them.

Unanswered.
