60% of Gozitan tourism operators say they are facing difficulties in finding employees, a survey has found
Gozo tourism sector struggles to find skilled workers
The survey published on Thursday was carried out by the Gozo Tourism Association (GTA) among its members.
Three-quarters of businesses in Gozo’s tourism sector employ foreign staff, but many complain about a lack of basic job skills and a low retention period.
13% of respondents pointed out a poor knowledge of the English language among their foreign workers.
A quarter of respondents say their business will perform better than in the previous year, 38% are predicting that 2023 will result on the same levels of 2022.
However, 70% say they were not in a financial position to carry out required upgrades and renovations, as main operating costs have increased considerably.
GTA members also called for financial incentives for their employees, and a stop to “unnecessary employment within the public sector”.
The Gozo Tourism Association said it will suggest and put forward proposals to the competent authorities.
