The police have arrested and questioned five businesspeople in a €62 million tax fraud investigation

Five arrested in €62m tax fraud probe
A group of businesspeople, including a contractor from Żebbuġ along with his staff, were arrested on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, Times of Malta reported.
They are involved in property business, road construction and agriculture, sources told the newspaper.
The group is expected to be prosecuted over fraud and tax evasion, with some of them being investigated over VAT evasion.
Times of Malta reported the businesspeople are expected to be arraigned in court later on Wednesday.
Update 18:15 | Author and Gonzo journalist Mark Camilleri has revealed that one of those to be arraigned is Charlotte Ciantar, the daughter of Carlie ‘Il-Ħexa’ Ciantar who sold a speedboat to Prime Minister Robert Abela.

“Subsequently, Robert Abela sold this speedboat to Il-Maksar brothers who are being accused of producing the bomb which killed Daphne Caruana Galizia”, Camilleri wrote.
Update 22:30 | Two of the five persons, Martin Farrugia and Henriette Cassar, have been arraigned in court on Wednesday evening.
