Fast ferry terminal still lacking basic facilities, 3 months after hit by storm

Three months after being hit by storm Helios, the Gozo fast ferry terminal at Lascaris Wharf in Valletta is still lacking basic facilities

As the peak tourist season has started, passengers using the Valletta-Gozo fast ferry service are left without bathrooms, vending machines and sufficient seating.

Strong waves battering Malta’s shores smashed through the terminal when storm Helios hit the island on 10 February, severely damaging its interior.

However, three months on, essential facilities within Transport Malta’s small terminal at Grand Harbour are still not available again.

“I cannot believe they have not managed to get this done within almost three months”, a Swiss businessman and regular visitor told Bonġu, adding “this is nowhere near ‘Best in Europe'”.

Transport Malta has not reacted to questions on the progress and the estimated date of conclusion of the repair works, sent to the authority on Thursday evening.
