Energy subsidies will cost €1 million per day, Abela says

€1 million of taxpayers’ money will be spent every day to keep fuel and electricity prices stable, Prime Minister Robert Abela said

Without the subsidies, every Maltese family would have to pay €3,000 more in 2024, Abela said on Sunday.

He insisted that, despite their huge cost, the subsidies were the best investment to keep the country’s economy alive.

A Nationalist government would have put the burden on the Maltese people, the prime minister said.

PN and Opposition leader Bernard Grech said the government has failed to tackle the increasing cost of living.

People continuously told the PN that they were struggling to make ends meet, Grech said.

Grech will deliver his reply to the Budget speech in Parliament on Monday evening.
