Criticism mounts over Abela’s defence of driving tests racket

Prime Minister Robert Abela is facing more criticism after he again defended the criminal driving license racket

Referring to the leaked Whatsapp chats, Abela told journalists on Monday that this was the way the political system worked.

The Malta Employers Association (MEA) has slammed Abela’s response as “a radical invitation to anarchy”.

“Covering for such scandals under the pretext that this is the normal functioning of the political system is unacceptable and sends a dangerous message to all sectors of Maltese society”, MEA said.

Doctors and insurers concerned

The Insurance Association Malta wants drivers who benefitted of political intervention to retake their driving test.

“Failure to do so will result in a serious drop in confidence in the validity of driving tests in Malta and a continuing unacceptable increase in risk to all road users”, it said.

Earlier, Doctors for Road Safety called for a review of the licenses in the interest of road safety, if the allegations are proven.

PN demands apology

The Nationalist Party has demanded an apology from Abela for his remarks, and that action be taken immediately in order to protect the interest of all people.
