Rabat murder suspect

Noel Azzopardi, a 39-year old Rabat resident, is the main suspect in Monday’s murder of Eric Borg in Rabat.

Sources said Azzopardi’s confession was captured on the officers’ bodycams when he handed himself in at the police station.

He is expected to be arraigned and charged in court today.

Violent Paceville bouncers

Police are investigating after a video emerged of a man being kicked and beaten to the ground by a group of Paceville bouncers.

Eyewitnesses told Lovin Malta, the site that published the footage, that the incident happened on New Year’s Eve.

The video shows five security guards attacking the man, stomping on his face and hitting him.

The police said they are verifying whether the victim filed a report, so appropriate action can be taken.

ETS: Cassola writes to EC

Independent MEP candidate Arnold Cassola has highlighted the burden on Malta caused by the EU’s new Emissions Trading Scheme.

He has called on European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen to exonerate Malta from paying EMS tax on sea transport of foodstuff and medicines.

“While the aim behind this emissions tax is a noble one, it is going to have dire effects on our population in Malta”, Cassola wrote, as prices risked increasing “up to 40%” overnight.

The Maltese people should not be punished unduly for Malta’s geographical position, neither for the “incompetence of our political leaders who failed to stress enough the gravity of the situation with the EU institutions”.
