In another protest, the Nationalist Party called on the government to recover the money spent on the annulled hospitals deal
‘We want our money back’ – PN protests hospitals deal
Crowds gathered at Castille Square in Valletta on Sunday afternoon, with many participants holding up placards calling for the government to recover the money.
The protest came days after the appeals court dismissed Steward Health Care’s appeal against the decision to annul the hospitals privatisation deal.
“For the first time in Malta’s history, the highest court has told the government that they failed and betrayed the Maltese public”, PN MP Adrian Delia said.
“They invested nothing, they did nothing, and they took 400 million from your taxes”, Delia said.
He criticised Prime Minister Robert Abela for doing nothing until it was obvious that the “crime in the highest government entities” had been exposed.
“You stole from the patients, from the sick, from the vulnerable. How can you steal from the vulnerable?”, Opposition Leader Bernard Grech asked.
He gave Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà three days to take action against those involved in the fraudulent deal.
If Gafà failed to take “clear steps”, the Nationalist Party would pursue the matter in the courts.
PN MEP and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also attended the protest.
