The Degiorgio brothers have been summoned to testify in one of Joseph Muscat’s libel suits, and the Public Accounts Committee wants alleged murder mastermind Yorgen Fenech to testify in its Electrogas hearings
Degiorgios summoned in Muscat libel suit, Fenech summoned to PAC
The convicted hitmen George and Alfred Degiorgio have been summoned by lawyer Christian Grima as witnesses in a libel suit filed against him.
Disgraced former prime minister Joseph Muscat had sued Grima over a comment on Facebook claiming that Muscat “blew up” Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Grima was reacting to Muscat’s wife Michelle who said in a video that she was more sorry about what happened to “her”, Daphne Caruana Galizia, than the slain journalist’s own family.
The lawyer reacted to Michelle Muscat’s disgusting comment, saying “Your husband blew her up, Michelle. That’s what happened to her”.
Christian Grima now has to provide proof for his allegation, as the court upheld a request by Muscat’s lawyer to invert the burden of proof in an earlier sitting.
The Daphne Caruana Galizia public inquiry found in 2021 that the Maltese state – that includes Muscat as former prime minister – had to bear responsibility for the journalist’s assassination after creating a “culture of impunity”.
PAC wants Yorgen Fenech to testify
Parliament’s Public Account Committee wants alleged murder mastermind Yorgen Fenech to testify in its hearings on the Electrogas inquiry.
The committee will request the prisons director to allow Fenech to testify, which would be his first public appearance outside a court room since Kordin prison became his place of residence.
Former OPM chief of staff Keith Schembri’s testimony in the same hearings has been suspended, pending his recently filed constitutional case where he is claiming a breach of his rights.
