Nurses invite health ministry to improve pay proposals

MUMN will not immediately take industrial action after rejecting the government’s proposed new sectoral agreement

The union’s president, Paul Pace, said that MUMN will give the government another chance to get back to them with an improved financial package.

In an extraordinary general conference on Tuesday evening, almost 98% of nurses and midwives rejected the government’s current proposal.

Pace said this “significant” vote reflected the nurses’ anger towards the proposed package, which did not reflect the respect the profession deserved.

The union asked Health Minister Chris Fearne to resume negotiations and said it expected a meeting to be held as early as next week.
