AX Group endorses PN candidate’s visit to elderly home – one day before voting

Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has highlighted that AX Care, part of Anġlu Xuereb’s AX Group, informed residents of Hilltop Gardens, an assisted living facility in Naxxar, about PN candidate Joe Giglio’s visit for an ‘open discussion’.

The PN candidate’s visit to the facility on 18 March, understood to be a vote-catching exercise among the elderly residents, comes one day ahead of the voting for the general election at Simblija Care Home within the group’s Naxxar complex.

There are no other known announcements of election candidates visiting AX Group’s facilities in Naxxar, suggesting that Joe Giglio was particularly endorsed by the group.

Arnold Cassola has questioned whether it is legal to target voters the day before voting and whether the ‘day of silence’ before voting day had been abolished.

“Ta’ Simblija is my electoral district. Can I go and speak to the residents 16 -12 hours before the vote?”, the independent candidate asked.

Bonġu has reached out to AX Group, Joe Giglio, and the Electoral Commission for comments. Both Joe Giglio and AX Group have ignored the request for comment.
