TVM: Broadcasting Authority’s tedious ‘debates’ are back

Robert Abela faces Bernard Grech on 23 March, PLPN representatives to start debating on TV tomorrow

Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech will face each other in the Broadcasting Authority’s debate scheduled for 23 March on TVM.

The Broadcasting Authority (BA) traditionally organises election ‘debates’ on the state broadcaster’s channels, usually in the form of tedious strings of each participant’s statements on a number of topics.

The BA announced a series of debates, featuring political parties and independent candidates, in a short statement on Monday.

However, the authority has so far only revealed details on this week’s debates:

“The first two debates will be broadcast on Tuesday 8 March and on Wednesday 9 March on TVM, with the first debate on Malta flimkien and the second debate on Miegħek. Għal Malta.“, the BA said.

Two Labour Party and two Nationalist Party representatives will be taking part in these debates named after the parties’ campaign slogans, presented by TVM’s Liam Carter.
