Constitutional Appeals Court throws out first court’s decision — Cassola “happy that justice has prevailed”
Arnold Cassola wins appeal on gender quota mechanism case
Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has direct judicial interest in challenging the gender quota corrective mechanism, the Constitutional Appeals Court deemed.
Cassola has been challenging the law, which will only come into effect if candidates of two parties are elected to Parliament.
In this case, up to 12 seats can be added in favour of the gender that gets less than 40% of the available seats.
The Constitutional Appeals Court has overturned the first court’s decision to throw out Cassola’s case due to lack of judicial interest.
The independent candidate said he is “happy that justice has prevailed”.
