Jason Azzopardi damages himself with ‘replaced road signs’ claim

PN MP said direction signs on Marsa footbridge were removed for Robert Abela banners

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi has wrongly claimed that direction signs on a footbridge crossing Marsa’s Triq Aldo Moro were replaced with Robert Abela’s election campaign banners.

Azzopardi compared the current situation with outdated Google StreetView imagery from October 2016, saying “shame on you” for “removing direction signs to put up banners for the Maksar brothers’ lawyer”.

However, a quick Google search leads to footage showing that the direction signs were actually removed in 2021, after four narrow lanes that passed under the bridge had been reduced to three lanes, and brand-new overhead signs had been erected just 150 metres away.

Recent images from news coverage of Ajay Shrestha’s deadly accident on 16 February confirm that the direction signs had already been removed at that time.

The Times of Malta also reported that images shot in December 2021 confirmed that the direction signs had already been removed from the footbridge.

Labour: ‘Azzopardi is a serial liar’

The Labour Party said in a statement to Lovin Malta: “As Adrian Delia has said, Jason Azzopardi constantly lies. He’s a serial liar who cannot be trusted and who divided his party along with his friends. Those who divided a party can never be allowed to divide a country”.

Lovin’ published an article about Azzopardi’s easily disprovable claims in the early afternoon while waiting for Labour’s and Transport Malta’s statement.
