Independent candidate writes to prime minister about ‘arrogance, cronyism and very serious cases of sexual harassment’ at the authority

Open letter: Cassola calls out ‘filth’ at Transport Malta
Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has submitted an open letter about “filthy scandals” at Transport Malta he said employees had reported to him.
In the letter to Prime Minister Robert Abela, Cassola referred to the sharp rise in the number of TM employees from 400 to over 1,000 in just over four years.
“The authority has become an Ian Borg fiefdom, with a great deal of cronyism concerning his constituents or core Labour sympathisers”, the independent candidate said.
He claimed that many of the new Transport Malta employees were from Transport Minister Ian Borg’s electoral district.
Arnold Cassola said a number of TM employees close to the Labor Party, even those with a “bad conduct or bad reputation”, were promoted in preference to long-serving officials.
He said this was demoralising for many qualified people who are not outspoken Labour supporters, as it was difficult for them to get promoted.
Cassola reveals cases of sexual harassment
“Worse than that, there are very serious cases of sexual harassment happening in Transport Malta, including an obscene case of a director of TM”, the candidate said.
Cassola said that the director’s behaviour towards women was disgusting, adding that the authority had tried to cover up for him “because he is an ardent labourite”.
Arnold Cassola said there were at least two other people who sexually harassed female employees, and that he would provide their names to the prime minister, if he was willing to take action.
Abela: ‘TM is an autonomous authority’
When asked by Newsbook whether he would take action following Cassola’s open letter, Prime Minister Robert Abela insisted that Transport Malta is an autonomous authority.
