Police deny prime minister’s interference in Vitals investigation

The Malta Police Force has categorically denied allegations of Robert Abela’s interference in the Vitals Global Healthcare investigation

In a statement issued on Monday, the police stated they assisted the Attorney General’s Office in the prosecution “according to legal procedures based on the conclusions of a magisterial inquiry”.

This denial came in reaction to a MaltaToday report of claims made by unnamed ministers. They said that Prime Minister Robert Abela had given instructions to senior police figures. Abela, they alleged, directed police not to interrogate some of the individuals mentioned in the magisterial inquiry.

The sources suggested this was done to prevent disgraced former prime minister Joseph Muscat from being seen as the sole figure behind the fraudulent deal.

On Sunday evening, Prime Minister Robert Abela denied “categorically and in the most absolute way” what had been “maliciously reported”.
