Journalists’ requests to visit prisons and detention facilities continue to be rejected as the government has appealed a landmark ruling

Appeal: Government continues to prohibit journalists’ visits to prison
The government has filed an appeal seeking to overturn a judgment that have could opened up prisons and other detention facilities to public accountability.
Judge Toni Abela ruled in December that journalist Manuel Delia’s right to free expression was breached when he was denied appropriate access.
On Monday, Delia said that his fresh requests for visits, on the basis of the terms of Judge Abela’s decision, were denied again by the facilities’ directors.
Manuel Delia said the reason that was given for the latest rejections was that the authorities intended to appeal the court order to grant him access.
