ADPD opposes plans for Mqabba tarmac batching plant

ADPD has opposed plans for a tarmac batching plant in Mqabba – just 500 metres away from people’s homes

The green party said the factory should be placed elsewhere, away from residential areas, if there is the need for such development.

A development application by BIP Ltd, also proposing the construction of offices and garages onsite, is recommended for approval.

ADPD said this was a clear sign that the construction lobby is allowed to expand to the detriment of both the environment and people’s health.

In a media conference on Saturday, the party’s deputy secretary Melissa Bagley highlighted that the local council failed to convene after the application was submitted.

Quoting scientific studies, Bagley explained there was an increase in heart and respiratory diseases among people living near such facilities.

“This is another case of how this government trades in clientelism and favouring its network of friends whilst sacrificing the health of an entire village”, ADPD chairperson Sandra Gauci said.
