Grech calls for ‘action’ to protect Ġgantija temples from development

Bernard Grech has called for the protection of the Ġgantija temples from development within their UNESCO buffer zone

During his visit to the site on Saturday, the Oppostion Leader called on Prime Minister Robert Abela to take the necessary action.

Grech reiterated the PN’s disgust with the “scandalous” decision to allow the development of an apartment block within the site’s buffer zone.

Earlier this month, the Planning Board voted in favour of the development just 157 metres away from the Gozitan World Heritage Site.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola also issued a statement, calling on people to do their utmost to protect the temples.

Metsola said the prime minister and those around him did not appreciate historical and cultural heritage.
