The number of dwellings in Malta and Gozo increased by a staggering 73,454 between 2011 and 2021

73,454 new dwellings constructed over past decade
The 2021 Census of Population and Housing recorded a total of 297,304 dwellings in Malta and Gozo.
This represents a 32.8% increase in the number of dwellings in ten years – the largest intercensal growth ever recorded to date.
A total of 51,278 residences, or 24% of occupied units, were inhabited by non-Maltese residents.
Sliema (€1,150), St Julian’s and Swieqi (both €1,100) recorded the highest rents for furnished residences.
The lowest rental rates were observed in Vittoriosa (€553), Għajnsielem (€600), and Żurrieq (€600).
