43 more vehicles per day on Malta’s already jammed roads

Malta’s already jammed roads saw an average increase of 43 vehicles per day during the third quarter of the year

Figures from the National Statistics Office show that almost 4,000 more vehicles were put on the road between July and September.

The average number of newly licensed motor vehicles per day amounted to 69, leading to an average net increase of 43.

56% of the newly licensed vehicles were passenger cars, followed by motorcycles, PA-bikes and E-bikes with 18.4%.

Farrugia fails to deliver more efficient bus service

Transport Minister Aaron Farrugia has so far failed to deliver announced measures to improve the efficiency of Malta’s bus service.

Way back in January, Farrugia admitted that public transport is unreliable and people cannot be blamed for shunning it.

He said his ministry was looking into adding more bus lanes in order to prioritise public transportation on the roads.

The minister’s eyebrow-raising idea to test those bus lanes on low-traffic Sundays appears to have been shelved.

Meanwhile, Malta Public Transport has put 30 electric buses into service, and increased frequency on some if its routes.
